It doesn’t happen often, but it did today as the Angels hit up Beckett to get the win and the series. Things didn’t look that way, however, as he started out as good as ever, pitching a shutout into the seventh inning. But  it all changed when Vladdy hit the first pitch of his at-bat out to left field for a shutout breaking solo homerun, his 16th this year. Then, Beckett gave up a few more hits and intentionally walked Howie to load them up. This decision turned fatal for the Sox as Aybar delievered the winning bases-clearing triple to put the Angels on top. Scot Arredondo, Shields, and Rodriguez then kept the hot Boston offense at bay for the 4-2 victory.

Joe Saunders also had a good game, despite giving up a two run homerun to Kevin Youkilis in the second. After that, he was nearly lights out, allowing only six hits. He was taken out in the seventh to make way for Arredondo, and therefore, did not receive his 13th win.

Manny “Stop, Drop, and Roll” Ramirez failed to deliver as the bases were loaded in the eighth and Shields struck out Jed Lowrie on a curveball to end the threat.

The Angels are set for the final game of this matchup scheduled for 3:00PM tomorrow. It will be Garland for the Angels who has a current record of 8-6 with a 4.20 ERA.
