No “No-No” For Lackey

The last time an Angels pitcher pitched a no hitter was in 1984. The last time an Angels pitcher pitched a no hitter against Boston in Fenway…, well the only place that’s happened was in the Angel fans’ dreams.  It wasn’t going to change tonight, though either, as John Lackey became the first pitcher to get that close since that game over twenty years ago. He went nine and 1/3 innings with a no hit shutout going until Pedroia came up and hit a ball past the diving Izturis into left field. Then Youkilis hit a two run homerun. Lackey got the next two outs quick, and like that, the game was over, but so was the no-hitter.

“I just want to win. The no-hitter would have been nice, but it’s a ‘W,” Lackey said afterwards.

The offense worked harder than it needed to as well, getting six runs total. They scored two in the third off Buchholz and then increased that amount by two in the fourth when Anderson hit a homer, his 10th of the season.

Josh Beckett and Joe Saunders will battle it out tomorrow in the final game of this three game series, in which the Angels have already won. They are looking for their second sweep of Boston already this year.
