Garland Slips Into Athletic Quicksand

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Orlando Cabrera had a good night with the White Sox, going 1 for 3 with a base on balls despite their loss. His offered trade partner, Jon Garland on the other hand, did not. He was pitching beachballs to Oakland hitters, who took their chance and jumped on them early. Garland managed to pitch worse than the Texas Rangers’ rookie who had his major league debut just two days earlier. He couldn’t get just nine outs, let alone try to match the complete 27 he’d gotten in his previous start.

“Everything was up, everything,” Garland said of his pitches. “I got ahead of guys, didn’t put them away. Fell behind guys, started nit-picking. Just an overall bad game.”

It seems as though the offense and defense have switched places for the Angels. Their hitting has greatly improved, guys getting clutch knocks and run  support. Their pitching has croched upon a cliff, getting knocked around in recent games. But tonight was even worse. Neither offense nor defense worked tonight as Angels got the L in the loss column, falling to the second place A’s, 9-2. This puts them only four up on their rival in the division.
