Angels Encounter ‘Athletic’ Adversities

The Angels yet again failed to earn more than a run in tonight’s 6-1 loss to the Oakland Athletics. For the past four games, theiir offense has struggled to produce and has resulted in the 1-3 record in the Freeway Series and the current series with Oakland. The heart of the lineup is consistently swinging at first pitches, making easy pop ups and easy one two three innings. The opposing teams’ pitchers just aren’t being challenged or pressured enough. As the Angels look to break out of this recent hitting slump, their defense has been neglected as well. They have made a couple errors in the Dodgers series and already some shaky plays tonight. An example was when a deep fly ball was struck out into left field with runners on base for Oakland. Juan Rivera was in position to make the play but instead, let the ball bounce off his glove, resulting in runs scored. As they say, even professional athletes make mistakes. But I say this. Baseball players are getting a king’s salary to play a child’s game; he should have at least used two hands… That’s something I learned my very first day in girl’s fastpitch softball…

Now onto the good stuff. I know, I know, you’re thinking ‘It’s about time!’ But the only way to improve is to focus on what needs to be improved. Anyway, Garland had an alright night at the mound. He gave up the initial two runs near the beginning of the game, but managed to keep the Angels in it the whole time. Well, he would have kept the “hitting” Angels in the game, at least. Also, Figgins made a spectacular play from third base to get the runner out at first. He’s always good for a few highlight reel feats. Hopefully, the Angels offense will get a much needed spark for tomorrow’s game so we can start winning series again. Just think, we’re still in the top teams in all of baseball! Check ya later. Go Angels!
